Purpose and Information About the Pittsburgh Area Jitterbug Club

The Pittsburgh Area Jitterbug Club is a social dance club dedicated to the preservation and promotion of fast dancing such as Jitterbug, East Coast Swing, West Coast Swing, Shag, Bop, and other forms of swing dancing. PAJC was formed in December 2003, and incorporated as a non-profit, all volunteer organization, under the leadership and direction of its new members.

Our music format is predominately fast dance music, averaging 110-150 beats per minute. We are not an oldies club; however most of our music is rhythm and blues, beach, bop, Doo Wop, Pittsburgh oldies and shag music which is characteristic of much of the music of the rock and roll era of the late 50's and early 60's. However we will play music associated with Disco, Country or Big Band Swing. Let me be very honest: If we can dance to it, it will be played!

As a dance club, emphasis is placed on getting to know other club members as well as dancing with them. Our goal is to build a “family“ of friends who become bonded together by the love of fast dancing and the music we play. The PAJC is not a singles club, nor a couples club, but simply a “ dance club. Being a private club, the environment at our dances is very different from a public nightclub. However, having said that, other than at a PAJC dance, our DJs play at different bars, night clubs and restaurants in and around Pittsburgh. Both singles and couples may feel very comfortable doing the “bar scene“ at these venues since most of the patrons are Pittsburgh Area Jitterbug Club members. See “Local Dance Happenings“ for venue, DJ, date and time of these non-club dances.

Membership dues at present are $35.00 for the first year and $25.00 each year thereafter and you do not need to be a dancer to join our club... just love and appreciate music. Member dues are used for the administrative operation of the club, including the publishing of monthly newsletters, purchasing music and instructional dance videos for our library, DJ equipment, special parties, office supplies, website, etc. Any profit that the club makes during any given year will be donated to charity. We also will have dances specifically designed to make money for a charity chosen by the members. We should be thankful for our blessings. We're dancing, we're among friends and we're having fun. We're very fortunate.
